10 ways to help your child learn English at home

As a teacher of ESL, mothers often ask me what they can do at home to teach children English. The mothers are not safe, because they fear that their English just is not good enough to help their children.

However, there are many things to do at home to help children, unable to speak English. These things are easy to do and do not have a lot of English proficiency. If, in fact, need a couple of them do not speak English at all!

Any chance that the child may needexposed to English will slowly but surely help to improve their language skills.


Buy the video in English and let your children watch them at home.

Take a walk form. Show your child a particular shape (square, triangle, circle) and walk around the house or outside and see how often the child can recognize this form.

Get a picture dictionary and look with your baby. These are books for kids who have lots of images grouped by themes (animals, occupations, etc.).Point to pictures and allow identification of the child.

Count things. Whenever you get a chance to count your baby things - the number of steps toward the door, the number of red blocks that the number of carrots to eat.

Buy books and many short stories to read with your child.

Point to different things at home or out and ask your child what color it is.

Buy some CDs of English songs and play them in the car.

Select a "letter of the day" and see how many thingsThe child can name that start with that letter.

Make a special book family, or just see in family photos. Let your child point out, mom, dad, sister, brother, grandmother, grandfather, etc.

There are things you do for writing. Pencils, pens, crayons and markers are great ... but also consider using your child outside can chalk, finger paints, or colored soap in the bath. Encourage creativity.
